Sometimes I’m asked – what is coaching? Is it a bit like therapy? The answer to that is both yes and no! There are similarities in approach to coaching and therapy, at the heart of both is the ability to listen deeply.
A fellow coach once shared the following distinction with me “Therapy is about pulling up weeds and coaching is about planting flowers”. I think this is a very simple and lovely way of thinking about it. What was meant by the quote is that therapy is often about looking to the past and dealing with the things that happened in it. Coaching is about looking to the future, identifying where you want to be and figuring out the steps to get you there.
If you fancy planting some flowers send me a message.
